North Myrtle Beach:

Beachwood Golf Club

Since 1968, Beachwood Golf Club set the standard as the best-conditioned golf course on the Grand Strand. Beachwood offers a golfer friendly course designed by the great Gene Hamm. Its close proximity to the beach and to the area's most popular accommodations make it a favorite among visitors to Myrtle Beach. The 18-hole championship course has hosted such prestigious events as the Carolina's Open, the Carolina Senior PGA championship, and the Grand Strand Amateur. Beachwood provides four sets of tees for golfers of all skill levels, as well as a fully-lighted practice facility to sharpen your skills. (1520 Highway 17 South, North Myrtle Beach; 800-526-4889)

Arcadian Shores Golf Club

Arcadian Shores combines the best of Mother Nature with the best of modern golf layout and is the home of the Resort Golf Academy of Myrtle Beach. Lush Bermuda greens, with 64 creatively placed sand bunkers and natural lakes woven in and out of the fairways, make this course a challenge you will long remember. In a recent poll, organized by The Sun News, 24 golf experts voted two holes, #2 and #13 as part of the "Dream 18," a compilation of the best 18 holes on the beach. (701 Hilton Road, Myrtle Beach; 866-326-5275)

Arrowhead Country Club

With a canvas of Bermuda Fairways and Bent Grass Greens, the team of Ray Floyd and Tom Jackson created a 27-hole masterpiece along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway in Myrtle Beach. Each nine-hole layout is unique, featuring uncommon elevations, hardwood wetlands and the most impeccable manicured holes in the area. (1201 Burcale Road, Myrtle Beach; 800-236-3243)

Heron Point

Golfers returning to Heron Point use one word to describe this course - challenging! Settled among tall Carolina Pines, you will find beautifully manicured greens, contoured fairways, strategically placed bunkers and plenty of water to offer you a memorable playing experience. (On Bay Road off Highway 707, Myrtle Beach; 800-786-1671)

Play all three courses at Legends and have three unique golf experiences. Heathland's beautiful clubhouse modeled after the home of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club in Scotland, traditional character and tour conditions come as no surprise. The landscape is known for its lack of trees, menacing winds, pot bunkers and wide, rolling fairways. Play many of the most feared holes in Myrtle Beach at Moorland, as well as the shortest par four guarded by "Hell's Half-Acre." Parkland, a perfect complement to this award-winning resort, is the final addition in the trilogy of superior golf designs and was inspired by early American courses like Augusta National and Pine Valley. (1500 Legends Drive, Myrtle Beach; 800-530-1875)

Prestwick Country Club

At Prestwick, Pete and P.B. Dye have crafted a links-style masterpiece. Over 1.3 million cubic yards of earth were moved in sculpting towering dune-like berms, stairway bunkers and bulkhead–protected greens. A dense pine forest, sandy waste areas and meandering streams and lakes frame the generous landing areas afforded the player from any of the six sets of tees. Having hosted the U.S. Open qualifier and state Mid-Amateur Championship, Prestwick has earned a reputation as one of the most memorable golf experiences in the Carolinas. (Highway 544 between Highway 17 Bus. and Highway 17 Byp., Myrtle Beach; 888-250-1767)

River Oaks Golf Plantation

Carved from 800 pristine acres stretching along the Intracoastal Waterway, River Oaks is truly an unforgettable golf experience. The immaculate Gene Hamm/Tom Jackson creation features 27 holes of undulating greens, mounded fairways, with large lakes and finger shaped bunkers providing something special for every golfer. (831 River Oaks Drive, Myrtle Beach; 800-762-8813)

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club

One of the best know courses in the world, the legendary Dunes Club continues to be rated the No. 1 Golf Course in Myrtle Beach by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek. It's the former host of six SENIOR Tour Championships, Women's U.S. Open and finals of PGA Tour Q-School and offers world-class instruction, complete practice facility, oceanfront dining and full guest locker facilities. Access limited. (900 North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach; 843-449-5236)

Whispering Pines

At Whispering Pines you'll find tree lined fairways, carefully placed lakes and undulating greens by designers Finger, Dye, and Spahn. With above average slope and handicap ratings, this traditional, classic design doesn't need gimmicks. This is the only course along the Grand Strand to be designated a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary." The Golf Academy provides quality instruction through a varied schedule of programs at our large practice range. (Business Highway 17 South and 22nd Avenue South, Myrtle Beach; 843-918-2305)

Wild Wing Plantation

Four distinctive courses are offered at Wild Wing Plantation. The Avocet presents creative contouring, elevated tees and greens, double fairways, grass bunkers and even a double green serving two holes. The Falcon is modern yet traditional in style, with extensive mounding creating a sense of privacy on every hole. The front and back nine each feature a lake more than 25 acres in size and holes 12 and 13 are separated by a bunker 515 yards in length. The Hummingbird is designed in a classic "links style" where wetlands combine with stands of love grass and other native grasses to form the course's perimeter, complementing lush green fairways. Strategically placed lakes, open fairways, as well as an array of waste bunkers add to the challenge and intrigue of this course. Wood Stork creates a park land setting with open and tree-lined fairways in an expanse of land previously untouched except by native wildlife. The first eight holes play through wetlands and the remaining 10 holes through a majestic pine forest. (Wild Wing Boulevard off Highway 501, Myrtle Beach; 888-250-1828)

Journey into a world of golf unlike anything else you've ever seen. Eighteen holes rise as if by magic from undisturbed woodlands and enchanted wetlands. Nearly 4,000 feet of bridges wind their way through hundreds of acres of wetlands, left intact as nature's perfect hazards. The beauty of the setting doesn't diminish the challenge lurking in the layout. (1900 Highway 544, Myrtle Beach; 843-448-1300)

Player's experience as the world's most traveled golfer and one of only four players to ever win the Grand Slam of Golf can be seen and felt in the clever challenge he has for you at Blackmoor. (6100 Longwood Road, Murrells Inlet; 866-952-5555)

TPC of Myrtle Beach
Walk in the footsteps of golf's legends—Tom Watson, Gary Player, Ray Floyd, Lee Trevino, Lanny Watkins and others—at the PGA Tour's own TPC of Myrtle Beach. TPC is regarded among the top courses in America. (Highway 707, Murrells Inlet; 888-742-8721)

Wachesaw East

A former rice plantation provides the setting for this championship layout by Clyde Johnston. Carved out of gently rolling terrain, the heavily wooded course offers five sets of tees to challenge golfers of all abilities. A hint of Scottish design, accented with freshwater wetlands and lakes, makes this distinctive course a unique and enjoyable experience. (911 Riverwood Drive, off Highway 17, Murrells Inlet; 888-922-0027)
